Mental Health Moment | Security and Sharing

Oct 24, 2021

Let's say you're a squirrel, and you're gathering nuts for the long winter. You've been fortunate enough to be able to amass a really good collection of nuts, and you're all set. You have security, plus some extra. What if there are other squirrels who didn't get to save as much?.. maybe they don't live near trees that drop as many nuts, or maybe their weather prevented them from working on collecting as often. Maybe they were told that they weren't good enough to collect nuts, and they believed that. Maybe they aren't physically strong and just couldn't work the long hours to collect nuts. Do you hoard your nuts and hang onto them, or do you share, and make sure everyone is okay through the winter? Do you think to yourself, "I earned this.. they didn't.." and just carry on, feeling justified about keeping your stash to yourself? What would the world be like if we all used our different abilities to look out for everyone, recognizing that there are those who may not have the same skills, opportunities, time, strength, or knowledge that others have? What if those who had the ability to gather a lot took the responsibility on themselves to help collect on behalf of those who weren't as good at it, and shared what they had? "If I have something, then you have something," seems like a much better way to go through life than, "It's mine." What do you have to offer, and how can you share with others?
