Mental Health Moment | Detox

Your mental health and well-being make a difference in your everyday ability to respond to the job, to life, and to stress. Balance out the things that bring you down, with things that build you up. Is something specific weakening your mental, emotional, or physical strength? Detox yourself.

About detox: Just like a heroin addict going through withdrawals, when you're trying to eliminate something from your life that has given you some sort of benefit, but is overall bad for you, you will experience some painful withdrawal reactions. You may experience a sense of loss, a need to fill the gap with something else, anxiety, depression, anger, fear, agitation, and changes in sleeping and eating habits. See it through. Detox is preparing you for stabilization, on your own without the habit, and then for healing from everything negative the habit did to you. Be patient with yourself, stick with your plan, let go of what hurt you, and make room for the better stuff that is waiting just around the corner for your newly healed, much healthier, self.
